One on one Dr. Mordicai Sahmbi (Peter Donat) develops a method of mind control, using delta waves and TXP, a drug from the future. Sahmbi meets with a group of unscrupulous businessmen and tells them that he will teach them how to control men's minds. His fee is high, so the businessmen demand absolute proof first. Sahmbi says he will demonstrate his mind control ability on his biggest enemy, Darien Lambert (Dale Midkiff). Sahmbi's laboratory is in an abandoned mine in Kentucky. He lures Darien there and imprisons him. Still scared of Darien, Sahmbi talks to him from another part of the mine, using a clever remote communication device. Sahmbi believes the drug is working because Darien's appears to be under his control. Darien even seems to have some sympathy for Sahmbi's tragic past. Sahmbi's first goal is to get Darien's PPT, the futuristic weapon that Darien could use to send Sahmbi back to the future. Darien agrees to give Sahmbi his weapon. But, in truth, Sahmbi only controls a part of Darien's mind. When Sahmbi's guards try to take Darien's PPT, Darien escapes with it and with his holographic micro-computer, "Selma" (Elizabeth Alexander) A guard throws a hand grenade at him, collapsing the main tunnel of the mine. Sahmbi and Darien are alone, trapped together in different parts of the mine. Darien is determined to find Sahmbi and send him back to the future with his PPT weapon. Unfortunately, Darien's control over his own mind begins to weaken as the drug takes effect. Sahmbi convinces Darien to abandon his PPT, putting it in a location where Sahmbi can get it later on. Sahmbi finally believes that Darien is under his control. Now that Darien cannot use the PPT on him, Sahmbi confronts Darien in person. He tells Darien that he intends to convince him to commit suicide and plans to videotape Darien's suicide for the businessmen. Darien is almost under Sahmbi's complete control until Darien gets a painful splinter under his thumbnail. Selma realizes that if the pain from the splinter takes over Darien's mind, he will no longer agree with Sahmbi about committing suicide. She forces him to focus on the pain. Darien doesn't kill himself, but, in anger, throws himself on Sahmbi. The two men scuffle. Sahmbi begins to fall down a deep hole in the mine. Just in time, Darien catches him by the arm. Darien debates whether or not to let him fall as Sahmbi begins revealing the names of other fugitives from the future. Suddenly, the police and rescue workers burst into the mine, to rescue them. Despite Sahmbi's protests, they think Darien was saving Sahmbi's life. They take Sahmbi away to receive medical attention. Darien blows up Sahmbi's lab with a grenade before leaving. |
