Darrow for the Defense

In the year 2193, the Supreme Court overturns the murder conviction of Dr. Lawrence Carpenter (Bruce Jarchow), a physician who was prosecuted for murdering his wife. Carpenter's attorney, Laura Darrow (Amy Steele Pulitzer), insists that she be sent back to the 1990's to find her client, who escaped to the past, and tell him that he is a free man.

Back in 1993, Laura finds Darien Lambert (Dale Midkiff). With the help of Darien's super-computer, "selma" (Elizabeth Alexander), they locate Dr. Carpenter, who uses an alias. Darien and Laura tell Carpenter that he is now a free man and offer to send him back to the year 2193. Carpenter asks for time to put his affairs in order.

That night, Darien and Laura revive a lusty love affair, which they started in the future. Although there is no promise of a commitment between them, the mutual respect and attraction is very compelling.

Carpenter surprises them the next day by deciding not to return to the future. Darien's surprise turns to shock when Carpenter captures Darien and Laura and delivers them to Dr. Mordicai Sahmbi (Peter Donat). Carpenter's motive is financial gain.

Sahmbi and Carpenter plan to kill Darien and Laura with the same poison that Carpenter used to kill his wife. Laura is stunned to find out that Carpenter really was guilty of murder. Just as Carpenter is about to inject Darien with the drug, Laura jumps into action, using advanced martial arts skills to disarm Sahmbi and using Sahmbi's weapon to kill Carpenter and save Darien.
